Payroll Manager
Location: 4 King Edwards Court, King Edwards Square, Sutton Coldfield
Reports To: People Director
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: £50,000 per annum
The role:
We’re looking for an experienced and proactive Payroll Manager to join our People Services team. This is a key role where you’ll take ownership of delivering accurate, timely, and compliant payroll for our organisation ensuring our people are supported with a reliable and high-quality service every month.
Reporting to the People Director, you’ll lead payroll operations and have experience both in-house and outsourced payroll models, while helping to modernise our processes, improve system efficiency, and support integration initiatives. You’ll also play an important part in ensuring we meet all statutory requirements and maintain best practices in compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
· Lead and manage end-to-end UK monthly payroll operations ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
· Maintain strong governance and compliance with all HMRC, tax, and regulatory requirements.
· Lead pension administration including monthly reconciliation and compliance with auto-enrolment
· Ensure accurate absence and holiday control in line with operational systems
· Manage Benefits-in-Kind including company cars/fuel and prepare/distribute P11Ds
· Oversee all aspects of daily payroll administration and ensure month-end reconciliation
· Support the payroll transition process during acquisitions and business changes.
· Drive process improvements and support payroll modernisation initiatives.
· Provide leadership and guidance to payroll team members and stakeholders.
· Liaise with internal/external auditors and oversee payroll tax audits
What We’re Looking For:
· Proven experience managing monthly payroll in a medium to large organisation.
· Practical exposure to both in-house and outsourced/shared service payroll models.
· In-depth knowledge of UK payroll legislation, statutory deductions, and reporting.
· Experience with tax compliance and reconciliations.
· Familiarity with payroll integration and holiday pay calculations within Enterprise Resource Planning systems (Oracle preferred).
· Proven experience administering and managing multiple pension schemes.
· Experience supporting payroll during acquisitions or mergers is advantageous.
· CIPP qualified (or working towards) is preferred.
· Meticulous attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy.
· Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
