At Dignity Funerals, we are committed to providing exceptional care to the families we serve. As the UK’s only vertically integrated end-of-life service provider, we operate with compassion, integrity, and dedication to the highest standards. To further this support, we are looking for a Trainee Internal Auditor to join our Assurance team, ensuring that our business continues to operate with transparency, accountability, and excellence.
About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Internal Audit, you will assist in conducting internal audits, evaluating internal controls, and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations. This role aims to support the Internal Audit team in identifying areas for improvement and enhancing the overall effectiveness of Dignity’s operations.
This role requires a keen eye for detail and the ability to analyse complex information, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in all audit activities. We also value empathy, pragmatism, and a collaborative mindset, ensuring that our audit function supports and strengthens the wider business.
Key Responsibilities

Assist in planning and conducting internal audits across functional areas, ensuring compliance with internal standards and external regulations.
Assess the effectiveness of internal controls by analysing processes, identifying potential risks, and recommending improvements to enhance operational efficiency and governance.
Collect, review, and analyse audit evidence—including financial data, operational metrics, and documentation—to support accurate and insightful audit findings.
Prepare clear, detailed audit reports that outline key findings, implications, and practical, value-driven recommendations.
Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations, offering guidance and ensuring corrective actions are effectively executed.
Contribute to the development and refinement of audit programs, methodologies, and procedures to address evolving risks and business needs.

What we're looking for

A motivated individual with a keen interest in auditing and finance, and a willingness to grow within a dynamic, compliance-focused environment.
Any hands-on experience in auditing or finance, gained through internships, academic projects, or similar roles, is preferred.
Involvement in projects related to auditing, risk management, or financial analysis.
Exposure to evaluating and implementing internal controls within an organisational setting.
A degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant discipline, providing a strong theoretical foundation in auditing standards, financial principles, and business operations.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Exceptional attention to detail and well-developed organisational skills.
A proactive, adaptable mindset with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
A full UK driving licence is required, as occasional travel to sites (less than 10% of the time) may be necessary.
