Role Summary
This is an exciting time to join a busy rail company to manage a new rolling stock fleet introduction.
You will be responsible for technical engineering approvals and finalisation of new fleet orders, ensuring that the fleet meets the necessary technical specifications working throughout the procurement process through to delivery.
Duties will include:
Collaborate with key stakeholders, including TOCs, manufacturers and regulatory bodies, to approve technical and operational requirements.
Ensure compliance with UK and European rail standards, including interoperability and safety requirements.
Evaluate and integrate any technological innovations to enhance performance, reliability, and sustainability.
Provide technical guidance throughout the entire procurement lifecycle, from the initial tendering process through to contract award & delivery of the new trains.
Collaborate with commercial teams on bids & tenders work.
Manage risk assessments and feasibility studies.
Liaise with infrastructure teams to ensure compatibility with track, signalling, and depot facilities.
Develop and oversee testing, commissioning, and acceptance of new trains to confirm compliance with specifications.
The ideal candidate will have:
* Minimum of a Degree in any Engineering related discipline
* Experience of managing technical engineering within operational assets - ideally rolling stock
* Must have worked within rolling stock engineering - ideally 10+ years within EMU or passenger stock
* Understanding of systems engineering and rolling stock reliability for modern passenger units
* Must have experience within new fleet - we are happy for this to come from design/manufacture, fleet procurement or fleet introduction.
* Deep knowledge of Railway Group Standards (RGS), Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSIs), and other regulatory frameworks relevant to rolling stock.
* Ideally familiar with procurement processes in the UK rail industry, including competitive tendering, approvals processes and safety certification.
* Good problem-solving skills and the ability to assess complex technical requirements and communicate needs with both internal and external stakeholders.
* Experience in whole-life cost analysis for rolling stock would be highly advantageous.
* Experience working at or closely with a ROSCO during a new fleet purchase would be highly advantageous.
