What you will be doing as our new Planning Manager?
Effective Planning is a cornerstone of successful Project Management. The project plan is the roadmap to us delivering the project on time. It allows us to; Identify the whole scope of the project and the resources required to deliver it. To understand and manage our key interfaces. Identify, manage and mitigate risks and identify, exploit and maximise opportunities.
The Planning Manager is a key member of the Senior Delivery Area Leadership teams in the @one Alliance. You will be working closely with and supporting the Delivery Director, Senior Programme Manager and Commercial Manager.
You will actively lead the progression and development of and provide supervision to the other Planners in the team. You will be responsible for ensuring the quality of the Planning within that Programme Area and be accountable for the same to the PMO Manager.
You will be providing strategic visibility of the Delivery Area’s portfolio including Live and Future schemes to the Senior Programme Manager regarding the performance of the portfolio of projects including risks to delivery, opportunities, and resources.
You will actively lead the progression and development of and provide supervision to the other Planners in the team. You will be responsible for ensuring the quality of the Planning within that delivery team and be accountable for the same to the PMO Manager.
You and your team will maximise opportunities to deliver the projects on time, controlling all aspects of the delivery of projects on time including change management, supply chain and resources throughout the life cycle of the projects on and offsite.
You will have several years experience of working on large-scale or significant value projects within the Civil engineering sector, preferably in the Water Industry including leading a team of Planners. P6 experience is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
You will be an integral part of the Delivery Area Senior Leadership Team providing front-line Planning support.
Lead the development and maintenance of a Portfolio of Projects.
Take ownership of the Future & Live portfolio of schemes ensuring alignment with delivery area workload demand and Client availability. Ensuring key dates align with overall strategy and that Future schemes are seamlessly transitioned into Live schemes.
Collaboratively work with the Delivery Area Senior Leadership Team to develop and drive the overall programme strategy for the Delivery Area.
Ensure that robust detailed project plans are collaboratively developed and maintained by @one and AW requirements.
Ensure plans are resource-loaded and the resource plan is maintained.
Provide portfolio-level visibility of resources to the Delivery Area Senior Leadership Team.
Proactively identify opportunities and risks in the plan and monitor the critical path and key milestones, advising the delivery team on any potential changes.
Challenge the team to deliver on time.
Communicate the effects of progress on key dates and challenge the team to deliver on time.
Proactively advise the team on priorities to ensure optimal delivery of the Programme.
Develop and provide reports giving overall strategic visibility of the Programme/Portfolio to the Delivery Area Senior Leadership Team to facilitate the decision-making process.
Proactively identify, communicate, and manage risks and opportunities across the programme to ensure optimal delivery.
Challenge the team to explore and exploit mitigations and opportunities.
Drive adoption of innovative visualisation techniques including 4D, Time Chainage etc.

Quality
Accountable to the PMO Manager for the quality of Planning in the Programme Area in line with @one Alliance and AW processes and general Planning best practice to ensure all plans withstand detailed scrutiny.
Accountable for ensuring Project Plans are robust and suitable for submission at each Delivery Milestone and/or Change Request and support Change Management.
Ensure plans adhere to published @one Protocols and AW requirements.
Responsible for the coaching, training, and development of the Planners within your team and actively lead their progression.
Take ownership of any standard/template plans developed to support delivery in your team and ensure they stand up to detailed scrutiny.
Actively participate in the @one Alliance Planning Community to drive best practice and improvement of the Planning process.
Proactively ensure alignment between plans and cost forecasts.

A little bit about your skills, experience, and behaviours….
Proven experience in planning major projects, ideally within the water or civil engineering sector.
Strong expertise in Primavera P6 and collaborative planning processes.Leadership experience in managing and developing planning teams.
Excellent communication skills to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
Passion for innovation, problem-solving, and strategic decision-making.
