A temporary opportunity is available for a Distribution System Operator  Analyst within the DSO Primary System Models and Data team for a period of 6 months - subject to review.Reporting to the DSO Models & Data Team Lead (South), the role can be based at Tipton, Avonbank or Lamby Way and this will be confirmed with the successful candidate.The Primary System Models and Data team are responsible for maintaining NGED’s offline primary system models and power system software, developing engineering tooling, improving analysis techniques and compiling technical aspects of various submissions.The successful candidate will join an existing team of engineers, data analysts and programmers distributed across all four licence areas.The successful candidate will hold a HNC or equivalent in a subject that demonstrates high quality analytical reasoning.*Please note the successful candidate may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.As part of our hybrid working approach this role offers a mix of office and home working. Our vision is to be at the heart of a clean, fair and affordable energy future and we are doing this in a fast-moving industry with an increasing focus on tackling climate change, exploring new energy sources that are renewable, low carbon, and improve efficiency to meet demand.Main ResponsibilitiesThe primary areas of responsibility are Data Analysis, Process Development, Communication and Data Assurance based on the following:Producing internal & external reports and engineering datasets including:Power System models for internal and external stakeholdersExisting and future generation, storage and demand dataProduction of yearly load data sets to meet the requirements of internal and external stakeholders.Supporting DSO Engineers with the maintenance and development of offline primary system models from core and supporting datasets.Liaising with internal teams and computer systems to extract and import data for analysis purposes.Proactively working with the data owners and maintainers to continually improve data quality, accuracy and system integration.Interaction with internal and external stakeholders to support their use of our information and improve analysis.Proactively investigate and resolve data issues and assisting with the investigation of anomalies arising from the data or its processing.Importing and acquiring a range of engineering datasets such as loading data, forecasts and rating information.Using initiative to test, review and feedback on wider business data projects and their alignment with the primary system modelling team and business objectives.Working autonomously and where appropriate, seeking support and guidance from DSO Engineers.Providing administrative support to the team when required.Coordinating the collation and publication of internal and external reports and datasets.Operate and document the operation of specialist engineering software.Flexibility to pick up wider Modelling and Data work when required.Support DSO Engineers with various regulatory and Grid Code reporting tasks (e.g. week 24, Load Index, LTDS etc.).The Ideal CandidateYou should be self-motivated, inquisitive and demonstrate a clear knowledge of the principles and issues associated with data extraction, data processing, data storage, data manipulation and data anomalies. An understanding of Microsoft Excel and Access, SQL and Python. and experience of model building and programming is desirable. Fundamental electrical knowledge would be beneficial. The ability to present information in a clear and reasoned way, together with an open yet analytical approach to problem solving are essential to the role. Excellent computer skills including Word and Excel are essential and knowledge of large database applications are also desirable. You must be reliable, well organised and be able to work effectively as part of a small team and able to work using your own initiative.You should be able to demonstrate sound numeracy and literacy skills, good interpersonal/communication skills and have experience in report writing and presentations for external and online publications.Ideally candidate should hold a full drivers licence.Interviews will take place week commencing the 7 April 2025 or week commencing 14 April 2025.
