Barhale is a business founded on family values having been established by our Chairman, Dennis Curran in 1980. We are one of the largest privately owned civil engineering and infrastructure specialists in the UK, with over 40 years of experience in providing design, civil engineering and maintenance services working across multiple sectors including:

We operate as a tier one partner for blue chip, regulated and private clients, working as part of large frameworks, joint ventures and alliances, as well as on individual standalone projects developing long-term relationships based on delivering to the Barhale values which have been integral to our business since their inception in 1985.
Our direct delivery model is at the core of everything we do as we believe that people are our greatest asset. Therefore, we robustly source, train and retain all our own frontline delivery teams as well as management and support services. We employ over 1,200 employees nationwide.

General Operative
The Role
To carry out tasks set by site supervisors and gangers to a high and safe standard. Must be willing to do labouring work along with slinger duties, ideally shaft and tunnelling experience and a keen attitude to learn.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and carry out job-set tasks
Ensure have been briefed and understand all relevant risk and method statements
Use best/safest practices on all tasks carried out.
Checks on any equipment that may be used
Ensure a safe tidy place of work
Ensure the completion of work is on time
Implement best practice procedures.
Maximise use of own working time
Ensure signed up for all permits and briefings before commencing any work
Communication with site management
Communicate with site supervisor on any health and safety concerns
Feedback to site management with near miss/close call reporting
Ensure attend all site briefings, forums, and toolbox talks
Key Measures and Targets
Safely carry out tasks set by the site management team or ganger if in gang

About you
Essential
A practical hands-on approach
Experience in general civil works including earthworks, drainage, ducting, and concreting
CSCS card
Good team worker
Display and work to the Barhale values which centres around respect, safety, sustainability, openness, and honesty
Desirable
H & S Awareness
CPCS card for A40 All Duties, and A62 Crane Lifting Supervisor
City and Guild’s medium risk confined space
