Utilities Manager
Contract: Full-time, Permanent (38.75 hours per week)
Location: Birmingham, West Midlands
Hybrid - a mixture of office and home working with some regional travel across our UK sites.
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum (£4,000 Annual Car Allowance)

We are committed to sustainability, efficiency, and innovation in managing our estate. As part of this commitment, we are looking for a Utilities Manager to oversee the efficient management of our energy and utilities portfolio across our extensive network of funeral homes and crematoria.
The Role
As Utilities Manager, you will be responsible for managing supplier relationships, ensuring accurate billing, and optimising energy efficiency across the business. You will lead supplier relationship management (SRM) meetings, oversee smart meter rollouts, and develop a utilities strategy aligned with our carbon reduction initiatives and ESG reporting requirements (ESOS, SECR).
Key Responsibilities
Manage and oversee utilities suppliers, ensuring billing accuracy and resolving queries efficiently.
Implement and lead SRM meetings with suppliers, ensuring transparency and efficiency in service delivery.
Develop standard operating models for utilities data, including smart meters, property voids, branch closures/openings, and new projects.
Lead on ESG reporting, ensuring compliance with ESOS and SECR, in collaboration with the Dignity Finance teams.
Monitor and manage the rollout of smart meters across the Dignity estate, ensuring ongoing performance and cost-effectiveness.
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, industry standards, and best practices in utilities management.
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors.
Assist with utilities tendering and hedging to secure cost-effective contracts.
Manage the budget for both projects and business-as-usual activities, identifying risks and cost-saving opportunities.
Conduct site visits to oversee inspection, meter readings, and remedial works as required.
What We’re Looking For
Experience in utilities, energy management, or facilities management, ideally within a multi-site environment.
Understanding of utilities procurement, supplier management, and billing processes.
Knowledge of ESG reporting, SECR, and ESOS compliance is desirable.
Experience in smart meter rollouts and energy efficiency initiatives.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, manage budgets, and identify efficiencies.
Understanding of relevant standards, Codes of Practice, and Health & Safety legislation.
