Job Description Trading Standards Manager

We are seeking a Trading Standards Manager to lead the Trading Standards, Animal Health, and Feed team of a local authority in Yorkshire. This role is crucial for ensuring the delivery of professional regulatory advice, guidance, and enforcement across a range of legislation including fair trading, product safety, and animal welfare. The successful candidate will act as Chief Inspector of Weights and Measures and Lead Feed Officer, embodying leadership in complex investigations and regulatory compliance.

Day-to-day of the role:

Act as Chief Inspector of Weights and Measures and Lead Feed Officer, ensuring compliance with statutory guidance and codes of practice.
Conduct complex investigations, manage inspections, advisory visits, and promotional activities.
Issue legal notices and prepare prosecution files as necessary.
Stay updated with guidance from relevant bodies and implement revised working practices and policies.
Provide specialist professional service and advice, including caseload management and leadership.
Lead and facilitate staff to ensure effective service delivery and project completion.
Manage performance and resources for project delivery, including contract management.
Promote service development and improvement, ensuring performance indicators and targets are met.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards (including Metrology module) or equivalent.
Substantial experience in enforcing Trading Standards, Consumer, and Public Protection legislation.
Experience in operational leadership and management within a trading standards service.
Proven ability to lead complex investigations and project-related work.
Excellent communication skills, with experience in managing projects and introducing new initiatives.
Enhanced DBS clearance.
Flexibility for shift working/out of hours, including emergency response as needed.
