This role is critical in managing payroll operations and reward strategies for a workforce of 950 colleagues, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll, compliance with relevant legislation, and the development of competitive reward programs.Main ResponsibilitiesRole Specific:Oversee the accurate and timely payroll processing for 950 colleagues, ensuring compliance with company policies, HMRC regulations, and statutory requirements.Deliver a robust control and monitoring environment, including appropriate reconciliations, reviews, and adherence to daily/weekly/monthly processes.Manage payroll audits to ensure data integrity and compliance with relevant regulations.Partner closely with HR, Finance and Operational Teams.Ensure proper documentation and storage of payroll data in line with GDPR and data protection standards.Liaise with external payroll providers and software vendors to optimise systems and services.Manage payroll year-end processes, including P11Ds, P60s, and other statutory reporting.Manage and continuously develop the People Services systems, including Time and Attendance, Self-Service Portals and Payroll.Design, implement, and manage competitive reward strategies aligned with business objectives and market trends.Conduct regular benchmarking of salaries and benefits to ensure the company remains competitive.Develop incentive and bonus schemes to drive colleague performance and engagement.Prepare and present detailed pay scenario modelling and cost analysis for pay and reward initiatives, ensuring they align with budget constraints.Lead on the supplier management relationship with insurance and benefits providers.Monitor changes in legislation that impact payroll and reward practices and adjust policies accordingly.People Management:Lead a Payroll Team of four, with two reporting directly into this role: Payroll Team Leader and HR Systems and Data Project Manager.Defines and manages day-to-day activities, being clear about priorities to ensure deadlines are met.Role model positive behaviour, which is in keeping with our values, recognising strong performance whilst being clear and transparent about areas of underperformance concerning direct line reports and their teams where applicable.Engage and build open and honest professional and positive relationships with team members, fellow colleagues, peers, and cross-functional stakeholders.General:Is independent in exercising professional knowledge without close supervisionSolves problems according to experience, analyses possible solutions and provides cross-functional prioritiesThe Ideal CandidateExperience:An established Payroll and Benefits Manager with considerable experience working within a fast-paced environment is essential.Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to express opinions clearly and the ability to translate payroll matters and communicate to key stakeholders is essential.An individual who is highly capable at data modelling, forecasting and scenario planning for annual and statutory pay reviews.Essential Skills and Attributes:Able to act professionally and always maintain confidentiality.Advanced Excel Skills are essential.Extremely strong attention to detail with outstanding levels of accuracy.Excellent interpersonal skills across all levels and keen to deliver great service to our colleagues.Strong organisational and management skills, able to effectively prioritise and delegate to deliver to deadlines.Facilitator and implementer of long-term change and improvementsProven people management skills and strong leadership whilst working as part of a high performing team.Advanced IT skills are essential, and has previous experience of various payroll
