Teacher of MusicDollar Academy is looking to recruit an exceptional Teacher of Music on a permanent full time basis from August 2025.The successful candidate will be a talented and imaginative teacher who should be able to teach music to pupils of all ages, from Prep 1 to Senior School level. They will take part in a diverse co-curricular programme, which supports and extends work in the classroom.The Department has an excellent reputation for nourishing musical talent and for the quality and diversity of music created through five choirs, four orchestras, two jazz orchestras, chamber and traditional music groups, and Junior and Senior stage musicals. Curricular music is currently taught by six specialist staff. There are nineteen visiting instrumental teachers and a Music Administrator. The responsibilities of the post include certain key tasks which are outlined below:TeachingThe post holder will teach as required within the Music Department and will undertake all the duties of a classroom teacher. They will have excellent organisational and communication skills and will be able to work effectively as part of a team. The post holder will have the opportunity to contribute to curriculum development alongside the Director of Music and other team members. Liaison with the Prep and Junior schools is particularly important in the delivery of the Prep and Junior curricula. Senior school pupils follow the Scottish Qualification Authority National courses and experience in this area will be most beneficial.Co-Curricular MusicThe post holder will lead and assist with co-curricular ensembles as directed by the Director of Music. They will assist the Director of Music in the planning and management of concerts and other music events both within and out with the school. They will assist the Director of Music in promoting and recording Music Department events in newsletters, school magazines and on the school website. Events take place throughout the year and may involve evenings and weekends.Preparation of pupils for ABRSM and TRINITY examinationsThe post holder will have the opportunity to: accompany pupils for ABRSM and Trinity examinations; prepare pupils for the aural and sight-singing elements of the exams; and to coach pupils for theory examinations.Additional responsibilitiesThe following will be advantageous:Ability to teach across the age ranges of Prep, Junior and SeniorA working knowledge of Kodaly principlesA knowledge of Music Technology including current SQA coursesExcellent piano skills with the ability to accompany pupils at all levelsWillingness to lead and contribute to music ensemblesThe Academy has a rich co-curricular programme in which all members of staff are expected to participate.Salary and BenefitsThe salary for this position is in line with the SNCT main grade scales, with an additional, generous enhancement provided by Dollar Academy.
