We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical components and systems used in manufacturing processes. This role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams, ensuring product designs meet both customer specifications and manufacturing requirements, and overseeing the entire design lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design, development, and optimization of mechanical systems and components for manufacturing processes.
Create detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and specifications.
Work closely with production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.
Conduct feasibility studies, materials selection, and structural analysis for new designs.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, software, and manufacturing engineers, to ensure integrated design solutions.
Oversee prototype testing, troubleshooting, and performance evaluations to validate designs.
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality assurance processes.
Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
Qualifications:
Minimum HND (or equivalent), BSc in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
Membership of a professional body will be an advantage.
Experience & Knowledge:
Experience in the design of special purpose machinery.
Have a good understanding of general mechanical engineering principles.
Experience in the design of lifting equipment (preferable).
Be proficient with AutoCAD, Inventor and Vault (experience with other software will be accepted).
Be proficient with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.).
To be able to carry out stress analysis by hand calculations and with computer aided tools (FEA).
Experience working in accordance with British and International engineering standards. (experience with the following would be an advantage, BS EN 13155, BS EN 13001, BS EN 1991-3, BS EN 1993-6, BS 2573-1 and DNV / NORSOK codes).
Understand the UK Health and Safety Legislation, LOLER, PUWER, Supply of Machinery (Safety) (Amended) Regulations 2011 & UKCA marking, Design Risk Assessment etc.
Have a general understanding of electrical, hydraulic and control design principles (preferable).
Have a general understanding of welding processes, be able to write WPS’s and be familiar with methods of NDE standards and procedures. (preferable).
Have a general understanding of metal finishing process (plating and painting) (preferable).
Experience with the supervision of a design team would be an advantage.
