We have a new and exciting opportunity for a Senior Asset Programmes Manager to join our Asset Management team at National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED).

In this role, you will be responsible for the implementation of a portfolio of investment and other asset intervention programme as well as ensuring a smooth, optimised delivery of work on our extensive asset base to maximise asset value while controlling cost and risk.

You will oversee a team of programme managers analysts and planners and own planning processes and programme control across our asset investment portfolio.

Reporting into the Head of Asset Management will interpret enterprise and asset class strategies & plans into a portfolio of deliverable implementation programmes. You’ll monitor delivery and work with asset strategists and delivery partners, course correcting and optimising to target whole life value while delivering measurable TotEx benefits.

As part of our hybrid working approach this role offers a mix of office and home working.

We are flexible on base location and the role can be based from one of our offices/depots within the NGED licence areas of West Midlands, East Midlands, South West or Wales.

Main Responsibilities
Coordinate asset intervention (capital investment, inspection, maintenance, disposal and asset data improvement) programmes for network assets throughout NGED.
Implement and oversee effective portfolio and programme level governance and change control processes. Take clear ownership and oversight of these arrangements and assure compliance is maintained.
Develop and maintain a representative set of portfolio and programme level KPIs. Iterate these to address business needs and portfolio performance as needed.
Systematically translate portfolio and programme deliverables into value and risk framework to maintain a clear, corporate level, understanding of the value realised by our asset interventions and investments.
Responsible for the integration of activities of multiple, major project operations; ensuring that project efforts are cohesive, consistent, and effective in supporting National Grid Electricity Distributions vision, goals, and strategic plan. Analyse interfaces and critical dependences across the Programme/Workstreams
Capability development and continuous improvement of the Asset Programmes Department. Including team. 

The Ideal CandidateYou’ll be educated to bachelor’s degree level or with equivalent professional experience gained in an asset intensive industry or regulated/ regulatory environment and hold an industry recognised qualification (such as APM PMQ or MSP Foundation and Practitioner). Chartered (or demonstrably working towards) status in Asset Management, Engineering, or a comparable profession is desirable.

You’ll have expert knowledge and understanding of regulated infrastructure businesses, together with project and/or programme management principles. You’ll have proven experience of managing a Programme Office or Project Office with applied experience of programme or project management.

Ideally you’ll also have comprehensive experience in asset programme management or within a similar function, and knowledge of DNO assets and work, or the capabilities to build this knowledge quickly or apply knowledge from a closely related field.

You’ll be highly organised, good at planning ahead and analytical – applying these skills to complex multidisciplinary projects and programmes and identifying larger strategic implications.

You will be a sound people manager with proven experience in managing and developing teams with planned succession. You’ll also be an accomplished influencer, who can build trust and consensus at all levels of the organisation.

Some roles require a triannual check.
