Purpose of the RoleChartwells is looking for a Nutritionist to join our award-winning team. The role will be based within the Harris Federation, requiring regular travel between sites. The successful candidate should be based within the London region, with easy access to Harris Federation schools, and should be a confident user of public transport and road networks. They should be an expert in nutrition, with an interest in food allergies and intolerances, and possess knowledge of legislation related to food and nutrition, including the Food Information Regulations and School Food Standards.The Nutritionist will be responsible for the management of medical diet provision and the delivery of Beyond the Chartwells Kitchen, our bespoke educational programme across the Harris contract. In this dual role, the provision of medical diets takes priority and includes:Writing medical diet menus for various allergies, intolerances, and medical conditions.Regular communication with parents, schools, catering teams, and medical professionals.Auditing sites.Training catering teams.Reporting incidents and working with HSE to investigate.Beyond medical diets, the Nutritionist will support the delivery of Chartwells’ bespoke Beyond the Chartwells Kitchen programme across Harris schools. They will also be accountable, on behalf of the wider added value team, to the Contract Director and Client for reporting and evidencing the success and execution of the programme. This programme will primarily be delivered in school classrooms and assemblies. Outside term time, this role will lead a bespoke project in the local community, delivering food and wellbeing education to children who need it most.Depending on experience, this role may form part of a graduate scheme, where the Nutritionist will complete training and development courses to enhance their CPD and support their registration with the Association for Nutrition.The person in this role must be keenly aware of health and safety and food hygiene issues.Key ResponsibilitiesVisiting schools across the Harris Federation in London daily to audit and support kitchen teams.Supporting our extensive medical diet procedures throughout the business by:Creating a wide range of medical diet menus for pupils with food allergies and intolerances.Ensuring FIR regulations are met by providing up-to-date allergy information in the form of allergy reports.Managing day-to-day queries from parents, pupils, and clients regarding medical diets.Organising and maintaining sensitive pupil allergy information in an auditable manner.Regularly attending parent and client meetings regarding medical diet provision.Maintaining medical diet information in our in-house menu management systems.Contributing to ingredient, recipe, and menu development.Delivering medical diet training throughout the business.Reviewing policies and procedures on medical diets.Collaborating with catering managers and area managers to ensure a cohesive approach to providing medical diet meals safely.Delivering food and wellbeing education sessions to various audiences, both in-person and through posters, blogs, and website posts.Co-writing school strategy plans for allergens, education, and sustainability with guidance from central teams.Providing expert knowledge of legislation related to food and nutrition.Collaborating with in-contract teams to meet KPIs and provide required information.Representing the company professionally to clients and schools.Supporting wider business projects as required.Person SpecificationMust have a degree (BSc) in Nutrition or a relevant subject.Experience working with individuals with allergies and intolerances is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.Experience using nutritional analysis systems such as Saffron (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.Excellent IT skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly.Strong communication skills, with the ability to adapt to a range of stakeholders, including clients, parents, and pupils.Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage a busy inbox and a high workload.Confidence in communicating with large groups and managing challenging meetings or conversations.Experience delivering educational sessions to young people (experience in Food Technology or Nutrition is desirable).Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Keen passion for food and wellbeing.Excellent attention to detail.Confident public speaker.A proactive and positive attitude.Commitment to staying updated with the latest nutrition research and legislation.Willingness to travel and occasionally stay away from home.Ability to travel across Greater London via car or public transport.Demonstrates Compass values and recognition principles.Job Reference: com/2011/J68801/52605004/WJCompass Group UK&I is committed to fostering an environment where every individual can be themselves at work and has equal opportunities to advance in their careers.
