As a Library Assistant at Merville Barracks, Colchester You'll provide day to day running of the Army Library, You're the one with the skills to ensure behind the scenes of facilities run like clockwork. You will operating the library in accordance with the site standard operating procedures. You'll interact with our armed forces personnel daily, you’ll be improving the quality of life in everyone you meet!
What you’ll do:
Use the Library Management System for stock control, including adding new library members, adding records for new stock, the issue and return of stock, placing reservations and chasing overdue items.
Liaise with the Army Education Centre to staff to suggest new stock relevant to the needs of the library’s customers.
Process new library stock.
Withdraw and dispose of old stock as directed by Army Library and Information Centre.
Shelve returned items, display new stock and keep the library in good order.
Carry out information searches for users using a range of electronic and printed information sources.
Provide guidance and instruction to users on the full range of library facilities, including the Internet, and other electronic sources, books and periodicals through marketing and delivering induction briefs to learners and visitors
Manage user records in accordance with GDPR.
Record statistics of library use and forward to Army Library and Information Centre monthly.
Complete and submit quarterly reports for Army Library and Information Centre management Board Meetings
What you bring:
5 GCSEs Grade C or equivalent NVQ Business Administration Level 2
Good communication skills.
Methodical and organised approach to working
Computer literate on all Microsoft packages and have willingness to learn bespoke packages onsite.
Ability to make effective decisions and deliver a quality service – changing and improving where necessary
Experience of working in a customer facing role
Ability to provide excellent customer service
Desirable
Previous experience in a library role
ECDL/ITQ Level 2
Experience in giving presentations
Understanding of adult education
