An opportunity is available for a Lead Data Analyst.

Reporting to the Head of Project Management Office (PMO), you'll play a crucial role in identifying opportunities to improve the National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) organisation through detailed analysis of our internal data. Reporting across NGED’s major projects, we are looking for a resilient individual who can help the business stay on top of its financial and operational performance.

Your day to day will involve:


Managing a small team of data analysts
Recommending strategic changes to process from detailed trend analysis
Directing your team to key activities and prioritising workloads to strategic business objectives
Defining reporting with insight to be consumed by multi-level audiences
Simplifying complex data into consumable reports
Defining key data points that are missing, liaising with other departments at HoD and Director level to ensure we have agreed data points
Hold regular team reviews
Set clear direction
Accountable for timebound reports to the wider business unit 
Collaborating with different teams to enhance data infrastructure, analyse business (financial & operational) performance, and identify areas for improvement.
Use SQL and other tools (e.g., PowerBI) to extract and analyse data for business insights.
Analyse business metrics and provide recommendations to improve visibility and performance.
Conduct experimental analysis to assess the impact of new initiatives.


As part of our hybrid working approach this role offers a mix of office (3 days) and home working (2 days). This is a full-time role, but flexibility in working pattern may be considered. Occasional Travel may be needed to other locations.

The role can be based from any of our depots within the licence areas East Midlands, West Midlands, South West or Wales. 

*Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

Main ResponsibilitiesData analysis:


Wrangling data to extract information from various data sets and identify correlations and patterns
Organising and transforming information into comprehensible structures
Combining structured and unstructured data to predict trends
Performing statistical analysis of data
Using tools and techniques to visualise data in easy-to-understand formats, such as graphs and dashboards.
Monitoring data quality and removing corrupt data


Reporting & presenting data insights:


Preparing reports and presenting these to management or other departments
Identifying and recommending new ways to streamline business processes
Using data driven analysis, monitoring performance and providing clear recommendations to drive the company forward to help support the company’s ambitious growth aspirations
Providing leadership and identifying opportunities to improve process and procedures
through inquisitive analysis

The Ideal CandidateTo be successful you will have demonstrable team leadership experience as well as proven experience in a similar Data Analyst role, ideally within a Capital Projects delivery department. You will have a proficiency in Python and in querying and manipulating raw datasets for analysis using SQL and Microsoft Excel and with data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI). You’ll also be an expert in data analysis and deriving insight from data, using initiative to deep dive into data and present this back to stakeholders, tailored to the relevant audience.

A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or other quantitative discipline is preferred but not essential as equal weighting will be given to equivalent experience.
