We are looking for a conscientious and reliable individual to work as a part of our Janitorial team.
The role is available on a fixed-term basis for 4 months with the possibility of extending this contract. A start date is available once enhanced checks are complete.
Working under the direction of the Head of Maintenance and Janitorial Services, you will be responsible for the security, presentation, cleanliness and maintenance of a large school site. You will see from the information below that the Janitorial team have a varied remit as part of the wider Facilities team and play an integral part in the smooth running of the school.
The role has a rotating shift pattern of earlies (07:00 – 15:00) and lates (14:00 – 22:00).

Main Responsibilities
Maintain high standards of security, presentation and general maintenance in all buildings, yards and grounds.
Responsible for the opening and closing all school buildings at beginning and end of working day.
Assisting with the supervision of authorised visitors/contractors to the school; and to report unauthorised visitors to the school office.
Reporting breaches of security.
General Porterage duties around site and between Senior school, Junior school and other school sites.
Responsible for all room layouts for classes, parent evenings, assemblies, external lets etc.
After suitable training carry out portable appliance testing and keeping up to date records. Carry out minor repairs to portable electric appliances.
Assist the other members of the Facilities Team in carrying out maintenance as part of the school Planned Preventative Maintenance scheme.
To liaise with external contractors as directed by Head of Maintenance & Janitorial Services.
Ensure school trophies are cleaned prior to presentation. Responsible for the safe storage of school trophies in the school trophies cupboard.
Complete minor or general repairs as required. An aptitude for DIY is required.
Uplift and transfer recycling materials from recycling points throughout the school to the waste management centre within the school campus.
Assisting with fire evacuation/ emergency evacuation in conjunction with the Facilities Management Team, H&S Manager, Bursar & Rector.
Health and Safety monitoring in conjunction with the Facilities Management team & H&S Manager.
Complete work according to targets and schedules
There is a responsibility for the post holder to demonstrate a commitment to quality service delivery through continuous improvement for the benefit of the school.
Complete all required administration processes
Work in association with other facility team members and external contractors
Liaise with staff members to ensure safe access to work areas
Assist with assets audits and report findings/recommendations to line manager
Assist other members of the facilities staff with facilities related tasks as required
Ensure that the established Safe Systems of Work are employed and that all work is carried out in a safe, skilled and professional manner
Ensure that the Health & Safety of yourself, your colleagues, the staff and pupils is not compromised in any way during the execution of your duties.
Comply with all relevant current Health & Safety legislation
Attend such training courses as are deemed appropriate to your role and responsibilities
To carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by line manager or senior management to cover the continuing operation of the school.

About the school/organisationThe Edinburgh Academy is a fully co-educational school. The School consists of a Senior School, Junior School and a Nursery Department. The School is a member of HMC. The Edinburgh Academy moved to full co-education across the whole school in 2008. The Junior and Senior Schools are on separate sites, both of which have spacious grounds and sports facilities including extensive playing fields, an all-weather sports area, and a large Sports Hall and Centre.
